REFUSE COLLECTION.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l was very much surprised on becoming a permanent resident of the Hastings borough some time ago to discover that there was no provision for the collection and disposal of refuse. As this is a growing town with a population of 12,000, surely a weekly collection of rubbish would aid to its cleanliness. Some three years ago, I resided in Greymouth, which is less than half the size of Hastings in population. Early every Monday morning I placed the garbage tin outside the front gate, and by eight o'clock the “rubbish-man” had emptied it. Of course he did not do the whole town in one day. I consider that the question of collecting refuse regularly weekly, and suitably disposing of it, is one the Hastings Borough Council could profitably discuss.—Yours etc., CLEANLINESS, Hastings, 10/2/32,
