AMATEUR ATHLETICS
HASTINGS CLUB'S SPECIAL ATTRACTION.
The Hastings Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club has arranged another special programme for its next sports meeting to be held at Nelson Park on Thursday evening next, February 4, commencing at 7.45 o’clock. On this occasion the club has been successful in arranging for the Manawatu “star” cyclist, Lawrence, to visit Hastings, and he will be competing in the cycling events on Thursday evening. The Hastings public are well aware of the prowess of the local champion, Milton (Jane, and it was with the idea of getting a suitable opponent for this rider that the visit of Lawrence has been arranged. Both these riders are now at the top of their form, and those who attend can be assured of a splendid night’s entertainment from the cycling events alone. In addition to the above a further attraction will be a tug-o’-war between the butchers and freezing workers from the Tomoana works. These two teams are desirous of settling which is the better of the two, and arrangements have been made for a friendly match to take place during the running of the sports programme at this meeting. Each team has a largo number of supporters, and these will bo there in full force on Thursday evening to add their support. This meeting will be the final try-out for competitors prior to the sub-centre championships to be held at Napier on Saturday, February 6, and from the form shown some idea will be gained ol the chances for championship honours
