BOARDINGHOUSE DESTROYED. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Masterton, Feb. 1. A spectacular fire occurred at Masterton at 2.20 this morning, when a two-storey wooden building in Chapel street, occupied by the Associated Live Stock Auctioneers Ltd. and used as a boardinghouse and bulk store, was destroyed. The ,re had a big hold when the alarm was given and by 3.30 the buildings were burned to th<ground. The brigade concentrated on stopping the progress of the fire and succeeded in this connection. Fortunately there was no wind. NARROW ESCAPE FROM SUFFOCATION. Christchurch, Feb. 1. Mr. 11. E. Williams, manager of Hannah’s boot shop, and bis wife, hu a narrow escape from death by suffocation when their house was destroyed by life nt Redcliffs early this morning. They escaped in tbeir night attire. They lost everything.
