SIGNOR MUSSOLINI’S VIEWS. EVILS OF ECONOMIC WAR. London, Jan. 17. “Besides military disarmament we must have economic disarmament, so as to enable trade once again to cross the frontiers.” Signor Mussolini expresses this opinion in an article in tho “Wee’ lv Dispatch.” “Tho world is tramping oi. the high road to economic destruction,’ he says, “and economic war inflicts suffering just as much as military. “The time comes for a discussion on the question of a cessation of ostility in which commercial treaties should be torn up. “Trade has been placed in a stranglehold in which it writhes help lessly. Before long economic war will bo universal; indeed, it is intercontlnen tai. “The universality of traffic, of which civilisation was previously justly proud, will soon be a melancholy memory, a< the world returns to the economics of tho fortified cities in the Middle Ages. “Moreover, France and America have monopolised the gold, preventing others paying their debts, and so causing widespread stagnation. “Consequently, tariff walls must be lowered throughout- the world to enable payment to be made in kind, which is only possible by the reopening of the great commercial highways. “The crisis has reached the point where it demands tho most rapid and most, effective remedies, the best cnorg” courage ai.d intelligence of every nation to secure a real and salutary adjustment. ’ ’
