A vote of sympathy to the relatives of Mr. Sam Wood Was passed at yesterday’s weekly meeting of the Napier Rotarv Club.
Robert Price, aged 74, died on the Dunedin railway station yesterday, after a heart attack. He had been in ill-health for several years.
Miss Airini Lock, who has been to tho Bay of Islands and Auckland for the holidays, is returning on February 2nd.
Lady Luke, of Wellington, who has been spending a short holiday with Mrs G. A. McDonald, Meeanee, returned home yesterday.
Mr. F. F. Mcßryde, assistant general manager of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, arrived in Welling ton by the Makura yesterday from Sydney.
Mrs. George Luke and family, of Lower Hutt, who have been staying with Mrs. Luke’s mother, Mrs. G. A. McDonald, Meeanee, for several weeks, returned home yesterday.
Dr. M. J. O’Reilly, rector of St. John’s College of the Sydney University, who has been conducting retreats among the Roman Catholic orders in Auckland, will return to Sydney by the Niagara to-morrow.
Sir Erie Drummond is resigning the Secretary-generalship of the League of Nations at tho end of the year. It is expected that he will return to the dip lomatic si.viee and that he may be offered an ambassadorship. — Geneva cable.
The engagement is announced of Jocelyn Mary, youngest daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Prendergast Knight, to lan Charles, eldest son of Mrs. T. Nairn and the late Mr. T. Nairn, of Pourercre, Hawke’s Bay.
The death occurred suddenly at Palm erston North yesterday of Mr P. J. Small, aged 56. He had a lengthy list of public services, including the Unemployment Board 1930.31, Kairanga County Council (ex-chairman), Manawatu Drainage Board (ex-chairman), Dairy Farmers’ Union (ex-president). Manawatu-Oroua Power Board, Rural Credits Association, first council of the Dairy Control Board and many minor bodies.—Press Association.
The death occurred suddenly yesterday afternoon of Robert William Price, aged 74 years, says a Press Association message from Dunedin. He was Well known throughout New Zealand as a volunteer fireman and was captain of tho old South Dunedin Volunteer Fire Brigade from 1881 to 1917. He was also connected with the old Dunedin Navals for forty odd years. At one time tho late Mr. Price was senior vice president of the United Fire Brigades’ Association, and altogether served fifty-one years in the Dunedin fire tervice.
An extended tour abroad has been completed by Professor R. M. Algie, professor of law at the Auckland University College, who returned by tho Maunganui from Sydney to-day. On a year’s leave, Professor Algie left New Zealand in November, 1930, and he has travelled extensively through Europe, visiting the principal universities. He was accompanied by Mrs. Algie. As president of tho Alpine Sports Club in Auckland, Professor Algie, with Mrs. Algie, spent considerable time in Swil norland visiting many of the famous winter sports centres.
