ECONOMIC PROBLEMS
CONFERENCE AT GENEVA. DOMINION DELEGATE RETURNS. “I look to the International Labour headquarters to bring about an understanding between capital and labour and to solve some of the economic problems the world is faced with,” said Mr. Albert Spencer, president of the Auckland Provincial Employers’ Association, who returned to Auckland by the Aorangi on Sunday. Mr. Spencer represented the New Zealand Employers’ Federation at the International Labour Conference of the League of Nations at Geneva in October. The conference, which lasted for seven days, was attended by delegates representing employers and Labour unions and Government officials from all parts of the world.
Mr. Spencer said tho conference had handled many questions affecting conditions and hours of work, and the discussions had gone far to establish better harmony between the conflicting viewpoints. The Labour office had a permanent staff of 400, including several New Zealanders, and he considered it would bo an important factor in stabilising world economic conditions for the future.
