Overe 100,000 peasants in 800 villages iu the United Provinces have pledged themselves to join the Congress campaign for non-payment of taxes. The Congress leaders, who were conspicuously absent, are reported to be planning further measures to stiffen the civil disobedience movement. The authorities are closely watching the situation. A military police round-up has resulted in the arrest or death of many Burma rebels, including leaders. Up to the present nearly 6400 rebels have surrendered.
