HAVELOCK NORTH
REGISTERED UNEMPLOYED WORKERS’ ASSN. RATIONING SCHEME CLOSED. The unemployed men of Havelock North withdrew from the Hastings Association in September, and on the 14th of that month held a general meeting and formed the Havelock Association, and elected a strong committee. The main work of the association was to handle a rationing scheme which, with the aid of funds raised and contributed in and about the village, has been successfully accomplished. After issuing 220 rations during the eleven weeks it has been in operation, and rendering material assistance in several necessitous cases, the scheme was closed for the year with the ration issued on 28th November. The balance-sheet, a copy of which her been posted at the Town Board Office, discloses a small credit balance, which will be utilised next winter, if still necessary. The committee is very grateful for the sympathetic and material support given the association, both in money and in kind, by the residents in and around Havelock North. In connection with the Havelock Unemployment Committee’s request that the local residents endeavour to provide work for unemployed men to tide over the Xmas, period, it is advised that Mr. J. J. Nirnou will handle all inquiries.
