The New South Wales’ tail-enders raised the total to 500. which was made in 340 minutes, Hird’s century taking 130 minutes. Rain caused two stoppages after lunch. The bowlers were handicapped by the greasy ball and insecure footing, but the batsmen were so slow that barrackers became active. Curnow mad e 5® in 101 minutes. Morkel also flattered the bowling, his half century taking ten minutes longer. Heavy rain at 5.45 drove the players off the field and stumps were drawn.
