BACK TO THE LAND

Some 4000 families, comprising 20,000 people, states a Quebec message, have been placed on Crown lands in the Lake St. John and Chicoutimi districts as well as in Auclair and Bicncourt Townskips and in Temiseouata, since last spring, when the Provincial Government inaugurated the back-to-thc land movement, it was stated recently. Each of these families have been given a grant of £lOO by the Government in order to help them establish themselves on the land, while additional grants for ploughing and clearing the land are expected to swell this amount, to £2OO for caeh family. As a result of the wholesale return to the land of families from urban centres, the lumber industry in the Lake St John and Chicoutimi regions has been revived. It is estimated that 20,000 feet of lumber goes into each house, and it is reported that all stocks in the Lake St. John and Saguenay district have been sold, men working day and night to meet the orders that arc flowing in.
