RUGBY FOOTBALL
SPRINGBOKS BEAT WALES. 40,000 SPECTATORS. London, Dec. 5. At Rugby football at Swansea before 40,000 spectators the South Africans beat Wales by eight points to three. 1 he game was played in a downpour which lasted throughout the match, turning the ground into a mudheap. The Africans were behind by nil to three at half-time and then they exerted tremendous pressure on the home side. BASSETT THE HERO OF THE GAME. (Received 7, 10.30 a.m.) London, Dee. 6. Bassett and Morley, who participated in the tour of Australia and New Zealand in 1930, were included in the Welsh team, which, despite the rain and mud, was outplayed by the Springboks. Wales led at half-time 3—o, after which the Africans beat the Welshmen at their own spoiling tactics. Morley failed to complete a fine solid run, which should have ended in a try. Bassett was the hero of the game. He prevented the Springboks from getting a far higher score.
