BRAZIL AND CANADA
COMMERCIAL AGREEMENT. Rio de Janeiro, Dec. 4. A commercial agreement between Brazil and Canada was signed provisionally to-day. Canadian trade with Brazil is considerable. Canada receives a minimum tariff on all goods exported to Brazil. Under the provisional trade treaty Canada will also be given the most favoured nation treatment, entitling the Dominion to free entry of Canadian fresh fruits. In return Canada grants Brazil her intermediate tariff. Conclusion of the treaty is coincident with the coming into effect of the new double column tariff system in Brazil. Previously imports from Brazil entered Canada under the general tariff paragraph. The treaty is made provisional because a treaty of a more permanent character must have the approval of the Canadian Parliament before becoming effective. At the next session of Parliament a treaty, it is understood, will be submitted giving Brazil most favoured nation treatment.
