PARLIAMENT’S TERM

POSSIBLE EXTENSION FOUR-YEAR PERIODS. EARLY DECISION EXPECTED. Wellington, Dec. 6. It is generally understood in political circles that there is every prospect of the life of Parliament being extended to four years. This, it is believed, will lie one of the questions to be discussed if an early session is held in February. The opinion has gained ground among members of the last Parliament that a three-yearly period is inadequate for policies to be put into proper operation. The election campaign did not reveal any marked hostility to this proposal whenever the question happened to be raised, and public opinion is believed to be generally favourable. Should the life of Parliament be extended to four years there would be no licensing poll until 1935.
