WELCOME RAIN
FAIRLY GOOD SOAKING. * GARDENS AND PASTURES REFRESHED. Welcome rain fell during the night in the district, and although the total fall was only .27 of an inch in Hastings, the amount will suffice to freshen up pastures and gardens. For the last tcu days the sky has given every indication that rain was about to fall at any moment, and the enduring change in the temperature encouraged hopes that there would be a substantial fall. The promise was not fulfilled, however, and it seemed as though the month was to have a beginning. Many hearts must have been gladdened when the sound of rain suddenly was heard late last evening, and it continued for some time, a slight drizzle following for about half an hour. After a short interval another steady and fairly heavy shower fell, and there were slight showers between midnight and early this morning. The rain soaked well in, and even within the first few hours after dawn gardens looked considerably refreshed. The effects of the rain will be welcomed in the country districts. The rainfall at Waipoapoa Station for the month of November was Alin.
