SHIELD COMPETITION SECOND ROUND PLAYED ST. LEONARDS BEAT WAIPUKUBAU. St. Leonards registered another win in the second round of the Centre Shield Competition. The home team, skipped by Schofield, beat Haldane’s (Waipukurau) team by 24 to 20. At Waipukurau St. Leonards were beaten by 24 to 21, but finished up with one in hand on the aggregate. With a bye next week-end this places St. Leonards in the final. Several competition games were played off during the week with the following results:— Campbell Cup. Douthwaite, I' n nire. An electric light tournament for rinks will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings of this week. Play will commence at 7.15 sharp, and given fine weather a pleasant evening’s bowling should result. GAMES AT THE NAPIER CLUB RESULTS TO HAND The bowling fraternity were favoured with beautiful weather on Saturday afternoon, consequently play was of a high standard on the Napier green, and some very close and interesting games were witnessed. Bluff Hill had a comfortable win over Havelock North in the second round of the District Shield competition played on Saturday afternoon on the home green. Each side played two teams only. There was a good attendance of bowlers for the ordinary club games. The weather was ideal and the green fast. Result of Shield games is as follow-s. Members are asked to note that entries for club competitions close next Saturday-, December 12. PORT AHURIRI CLUB. VISIT FROM WAIRERE. Saturday was an ideal day for bowlers and the Port Club’s green was in splendid playing order. Wairere Club visited the Port with seven rinks and made an endeavour to lose the wooden spoon, but it was not to be, so while they lost on the day by 10 points they still have the honour of retaining the spoon to grace their pavilion. The most sensational game of the day was between Taylor and Newbigin, the latter at the tea adjourment being 18 to 4 on the board. From then on Taylor’s team settled down and the game ended 19 all. Shield team went down rather badly to Hastings. The home team did not plav up to form, and perhaps the game was not as bad as the score would indicate.
