After fifteen years’ service, Dr. Kelly, editor of the “New Zealand Tablet,” retires this month, and will return to Rome.—Press Association Charlie Chaplin will shortly visit India, China and Japan, and then return to Hollywood, states a London cable. Mrs T. Dimond, late of Hastings, left by the mail train this morning on return to her home at Auckland, accompanied by Mr Bill Reid, of Pepper street. Mr. Thomas Sherriff Ronaldson, who was, when he retired from the Government service, assistant Public Trustee, died yesterday in Wellington, in his 76th year. Many people will regret to learn of the reported death in America of Mr. Arthur 8. Ballance, who some twentyfive years ago was Wellington’s most popular baritone singer. There passed away in Wellington on Thursday, Mr Archibald Hall, a pioneer who played no unimportant part in early transport in the Dominion. He was aged 89 years. The latest information regarding the 12-year-old boy, Herbert Stevens, who is at present in the Hastings Memorial Hospital as a result of an accident on Thursday, is that he is making good progress and there is every hope of his ultimate recovery. A presentation was made yesterday by the mechanical engineers to Mr. W. Hendry, senior inspector of machinery at Palmerston North, who is retiring from the service after eight years’ service in that city. Mr. Hendry was was presented with a gold-mounted fountain pen. Mr. and Mrs. Hendry intend to make their home in Auckland. The funeral of Mrs Elizabeth Spence took place yesterday morning, a number of cars containing relatives and friends of the deceased following the cortege to the Hastings Cemetery, where six of the grand-sons acted as pall bearers. Many beautiful wreaths were received from the deceased’s many friends, showing in what esteem “Granny” was held. The burial service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. D. J. A. Shaw.
