Waipukurau Golf Club: Sept. 8, 4 ana S. Napier Golf Club: Sept. 8,9, 10 and Dannevirke Ladies’ Club: Sept. 15 and 16. Dannevirke Golf Club: Sept. 24, 25 and 26. J. Campbell Gets Into Gear. It was pleasing to see J, Campbell slip into gear in the medal match played on the Hastings Club course on Saturday last. He has been playing rather indifferent golf of late, but his n off the stick in the above event was a very good performance. His figures for the second half werO particularly good He owns a repertoire of shots that is complete, and he makes those shots in approved style, and with a swing that is as attractive as it is effective. Young Jim Cowan is making good progress in the game. He has a nice style, and With a little coaching (which at the present time is most essential) he should in the Bear future develop into a good golfer. Mason Waterworth shows a web come return to something like his form of better days. Mason has experienced a bit of trouble of late with his swing, but judging by his score on Saturday last, he appears to have overcome this to some extent.

Dudley's Great Golf: On the Miami Valley (U.S.A.) golf course Ed. Dud ley played brilliantly right through to win the Western open championship. He had rounds Of 69, 70, 70, and 71— total, 280.

• e • How Not to Play: The crowded golf course and the very considerate players are not confined to any one district. Every club knows them, and a correspondent makes the following suggestions to such players:— (1) Never drive until the players in front of you are off the green. The hole may bo 500 yards long and your best drive a 100, but it makes a good impression on any spectators.

(S) Don’t hurry off the greens. Tty that putt again; it’s excellent practice; mark up your card; explain why you footled your approach. Remember you have paid your subscription, and the greens ate yours, tn fact, you own the links.

(3) Walk slowly. Golf is a leisured, dignified game, and, after all, it’s a long Way round the course; time was made for slaves. That group on the tee behind you must have been hurrying and are probably hot. Let them learn their lesson to be leisurely and to exercise more self control.

(4) Don’t get Obsessed by the game. Fourbhlla especially are made for pleasant social intercourse, and while you are settling whose turn it is to play er you arc looking for a mislaid tee, intersperse the seriousness of the game with merry quip and gibe, it doesn’t matter if the ether fellows have to finish in the dark.

(5) If you lose your ball it’s dashed hard luck. Search thoroughly; it costs money. Be blind and dent' ns regards the players behind. Don’t get all hot and bothered; they are not entitled to go through until you have found your ball. Lot them share in your grief,

(6) Remember that rules are made by fools for wise meh to break. The correspondent addsi “if you have Carried out these hints carefully, keep a heavy niblick in your hand as you approach the club house; you may want it! ” • • « Bobby Jones Joins Spaldings: Mr. Gerald Patterson (managing director of A. G, Spalding and Bros.) announces that the peerless Bobby Jones, golfing Wizard of the century, has become a member of that firm, having purchased a substantial number of shares therein. He is to become a member of the board of directors.

He will be directly Connected with the Spalding research laboratories where matched club sets, cushion-neck steel shaft clubs, and many other golf Implements are devised. Jones will be a kind of living laboratory, for besides his work on design he Wil! test out products on different courses.

Jdhes’ affiliation with tho sporting foods company was announced in a fief statement made public recently:

• 'With fifteen years of toutnament experience in golf, I feel that I may have acquired some knowledge that may be useful to others interested In that sport. I have purchased shares In the firm Of A. G. Spalding and Bros., win become a member of its board of directors, and will devote a considerable portion of my time In the future to that business, particularly to the improvement of implements, balls, shoes, and other golf eqUininent. My work Will be both in the laboratory and on the links.’’
