LICENSING ISSUE

POSTPONEMENT OF POLL LOCAL RESTORATION. NOT POSSIBLE TO MAKE EXCEPTIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Pari. Buildings, Aug. 21. The House of Representatives met at 10.30 this morning. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, replying to Mr V. A. Ward (Invercargill) said that if legislation was passed postponing the licensing poll he could not see how it would Tie possible to make any exceptions in the direction of permitting polls on the question of local restoration. He thought the majority of the people of Invercargill would agree that it was unwise to depart from the principle involved, and that it would be much better that the feeling that might arise over a local poll should not be permitted to cloiid any issues at the forthcoming election.
