The latest Government decree ordering the seizure by the State oi all properties given to aristocrats foi their loans to past Kings had led to rernai kable cases; as for instance, the ancestors of the Marquise Frechilla five centuries ago lent the then reigning King eighty-four ducats (£4O), receiving in exchange several thousand acres of land Which the de scendants of the Marquise have since occupied and cultivated The present decree permits the State to claim all earnings from the land for the past five hundred years over and above the £4O originally loaned.
