HASTINGS CITIZENS’ BAND
SUCCESSFUL BALL HELD VISITING FOOTBALLERS PRESENT The Hastings Citizens’ Band held their annual ball in the Drill Hall last evening, when the hall presented a brilliant spectacle, the principal item of the decorative scheme being the excellent lighting effects, giving the appearance of twilight. An abundance of flags of all descriptions lined the hall and crossed the ceiling, while palms and other greenery added to the pleasant scone. The members of both the Hawke’s Bay and Canterbury Rugby represenative teams were the guests of the evening. The arrangements for the dance were in the capable hands of an enterprising committee, who spared no effort to made the ball a huge success, and that their Work was successful was shown by the delight of the large number present. During an interval between the dances his Worship the Mayor (Mr G. F. Roach) took the opportunity of welcoming the visiting players, and said that although they had been unable to win they had given the Bayites tho fight of their lives. The manager of the Canterbury team also spoke, and thanked tho Mayor for the wonderful time that they had had during their stay in II astings. Dancing continued until the early hours, all classes of supporters being catered for by tho inclusion of oldtime dances. Excellent music was supplied by Blakesley’s orchestra, while supper extras played by the Biack Cat Orchestra were particularly well received.
