RUGBY COMPETITIONS SECOND ROUND ADVANCED. OLD BOYS BEAT TAKAPAU. (From Our Special Representative). Waipukurau, June 20. In fine weather, but on ground in heavy condition owing to the recent rainfall, the second round of the Central Hawke’s Bay championship fixtures was advanced a further stage to-day, Takapau seniors playing Waipukurau Old Boys, at Waipukurau. Mr. R. Whitworth refereed. The teams were:— Takapau.—Neira, Parker, Broderick, Thompson, Mouatt, Olsen, Russell, Wi Hunter, Clayton, A. Parker, Niama, N. Hunter, M. Maaka, D. Maaka, I. King. Old Boys.—Bell, Phillips, Wilson, Piki, Wright, McCarthy, Swann, Meinung, Lee, Reidy, Blair, Brain, Dillon, Wilson, Fergussou, Stephenson, Stowe, Granger. Old Boys attacked at tho outset and were almost across when Ferguson attemptod unsuccessfully to pot a goal. Tho Takapau forwards pressed tho Old Boys until Piki fielded and punted to the line. Then Old Hoys invaded, but Olsen lined and saved. Following well-sustained loose play Stevenson scored near the corner, but Les McCarthy was unable to goal with a good kick. Old Boys 3 Takapau 0 On resuming, Takapau assumed the aggressive, carrying the ball to Old Boys’ territory. In a counterattack Old Boys reached the Takapau line, Stowe crossing at the corner. McCarthy’s kick fell short. Old Boys 6 Takapau 0

Old Boys 12 Takapau 0 In an acrobatic turn Broderick went over the back of Phillips following a splendid dodgy run. McCarthy scored but was unable to goal. Old Bovs 15 Takapau 0 Under pressure Takapau forced. In an Old Boy passing movement McCarthy was collared in possession and Swann attempted to pot a goal, but the ball failed to rise. SECOND SPELL. The second half opened with a bright loose attack by Old Boys to the Takapau twenty-five where, from a line-out, Meinung passed to Swann, to McCarthy, who ran through the opposition and scored. The kick was taken by Piki in front of the goal, but the ball struck the bar. Old Boys 18 Takapau 0 A free kick relieved ..for Takapau, Russell lining at half-way. There was good passing by Meinung, Swann and SlcCarthy, the latter, in a strong run, scoring and Phillips goaling. Old Boys 23 Takapau 0 Takapau invaded and Old Boys forced. Dillon broke through the Takapau vanguard with the ball at bis feet, but the visitors saved by forcing. Eventually Wi Hunter crowned a forward attack by Takapau by scoring, Niania failing to goal. Old Boys 23 Takapau 3 From a penalty 30 yards out Niania was unable to goal. Takapau livened things up and Broderick dashed over at the corner, Neira failing to goal. Old Boys 23 Takapau 6 Seizing an opening in midfield Swann ran strongly, then gave an inverse pass to McCarthy, who scored, Phillips, from an easy range, goaling. Old Boys 28 Takapau 6 Hard play marked the closing stages till Old Boys forced.
