HASTINGS TRACK NOTES
Contrary to expectations there was uot a great deal of last work done on the Hastings tracks this morning. The course was in a very heavy state, hence tho slowness of the times.
Head Serang, Mon Roi. and Crown Jest were companions in a six-furlong gallop in 1.26. The former was going the easiest at the finish, and could have done better. He is in great heart, but on looks will require a race before being at hi* best. The other pair were about on a par.
• • • Royal Hunting, and his stable-mate by Hunting Song—Lady Ausiley, ran half a mile in 55secs.
Kaokaoroa and Pikiti left six furlongs behind in 1.28 J, the steeplechaser doing best
Cuticle and Kahikatoa ran the last six of seven furlongs in 1.24, if anything the latter going the better. Both appear to be very forward. * • •
Leyland and Sir Moment did the same task in 1.255, with the former holding a two-lengths advantage at the finish. The time recorded was very good as far as Sir Moment was concerned.
Moa Bird, alone, got to the end of five in 70secs., but was not handling the going to well.
Wee Boy and Night Speaker also went over five furlongs, the clock registering a tick under 69secs.
Freehold did the last five of six furlongs m 67(secs., which was the best ol the morning
Hystride carried too many guns for Repay over five furlongs in 68 j. Repay has not been in work very long, and thrs was her first gallop, and under the circumstances she went well. She does not take long to come right, and a counle more gallops will see her back to her best. Call Again (Mathieson) and Dapper Boy (Kowhai) were mates over a round of the country. The latter outjumped his companion, but eventually stumbled at the second of the double. The mishap was caused through Call Again running up the first fence. The tune was 1.474
White Fang (H. Dunn) and Princess Elizabeth (E. Dunn) in a round over the hurdles, took I.44—very encouraging on a heavy track. The “Fang” pleased, rfs at tho last fence he outjumped his more experienced mate. Ho should not be long in winning a race in his new adopted department of racing. Autumn Dawn, at a slow pace, made no mistakes in a round of the schooling fences. Cloyne (Holman) was not bustled in r round over tho country. She jumped well, but is inclined to risk her fences a little too much for the majority. Gaze (G. Greene) and Mnnuiri fDeslandes) did a round over the hurdles, but it was more of a lesson for the latter, with the old 'tin as the tutor. Goshawk (McGovern) and _ Battlement (Deslnndes) were associated in n round of tho schooling, hurdles Gnshnw did not inrun too well over the first two but after that pleased to have it well on tho Martian gelding .nt the finish
Beau Regal (Deslandes) and Rigototto (McGovern) yverh sent over ten of the steeplechase ’ fences. The former, for the first round, held command. hut from then on Rigoletto had him well gone. This gelding is the mos-. promising 'chaser seen out here for some time, and the further tho journey tho better he seems to like it. It may be asking him a big question to win at his first time of asking: nevertheless, he will go with the best and with a race in him there will be many of the local track watchers anxious to bo with tho full brother to King's Jest.
