DOG TRIALS

iHE EAST COAST CLUB The third day of the meeting of the East Coast Dog Trial Club was held yesterday. The weather was bitterly cold, with heavy showers all through the day. There were a large number of entries for each event. This year’s meeting was a most successful one, competitors being present from all parts of Hawke’s Bay, and the entries were a record for many years. The success of the meeting is due to the energetic secretaries, Messrs E. McLennan and R. McGreevy, who worked hard to ensure the success of the meeting. The following arc the third day’s results: Long head.—J. Turley’s Rose 48 J pts., 1: J. Johnson’s Tam, 48, 2; J. G. Sutherland’s Clyde, 46 j 3; J. Johnson’s Glen, 4; W. Whyte’s Boy, 45), 5. There were 38 entries. Maiden huntaway.—W. E. Nelens’ Sweet, 31, 1; W. E. Nelens’ Jock, 27, 2; D. Johnstone’s Mac, 21, 3; W. Ritchie’s Boss, 19, 4. There were 15 entries.

Open huntaway.—W. E. Nelens’ Sweet, 31,1; J. Donnelly’s Sandy, 30, 2; W. E. Nelens’ Jock, 27, 3; J. Johnson’s Mac, 26, 4; W. Whyte’s Boy, 24, 5. Mr. A. W. Parson’s cup for Class 1 was won by W. Whyte; J. Johnson’s cup (Class 2), T. Turley; Wangaehu Returned Soldiers’ Cup, W. E. Nelens; Herbert Hill’s Cup, for maiden dog in long head, F. Cameron; Austin Memorial Trophy, W. E. Nelens.
