B CLASS RADIO STATIONS.
(To The Editor.) Sir,—Last Wednesday evening it was a very distressing experience for radio listeners to have to hear Uncle George saying “Good-bye” to all his large radio family. The childien adore Uncle George and look forward eagerly to his weekly session. Now, he is forced off the air, and the children are quite heartbroken. There were not very many dry eyes at the close. 2ZH has always been a great favourite with everyone. It is nothing short of disastrous to Hawke’s Bay radio owners that B Class stations are compelled to close down. Reception here from 2YA is appalling, sometimes fading away, and the next minute blasting the roof off. Ido think listeners should combine in sending a petition to the Postmaster-General asking that the position be thoroughly investigated, and praying foi support for our B Class stations. The Postmaster-General must realise that it is the B Class stations that have been the means of his increased revenue from listeners. I would propose that Hawke’s Bay listeners, in a body, refuse to renew their licenses unless we have the B Class service that we were receiving. If we all stick together we must eventually get satisfaction. We provide the revenue, therefore wc are in a position to dictate. The Copyright Association is merely adopting a “dog in the manger” attitude by trying to stay the march of progress. The day of gramophones is almost done, the same as m the near future cars will be in the discard But who is going to try and demand that the people use cars and not 'planes? Now, you Hawke’s Bay radio listeners, show yonr grit; get together and demand some assistance for our B Class stations.—Yours, etc.. ENTHUSIAST. Hastings, Jan. 23, 1931.
