The League committee, discussing the scheme for European union, unanimously passed a resolution proposed by France, Britain, Italy and Germany declaring that in view of the European political difficulties, accentuated by the economic instability due to world-wide depression, and also to the widespread anxiety, increased by irresponsible talk concerning the possibility of war which is hindering economic recovery, ‘‘the best service we can render to improve the economic position is a firm assurance of European peace. We therefore, as responsible representatives of European States, declare that we are resolutely determined to use the League machinery to prevent a resort to violence.” A GERMAN PROTEST. At the League of Nations Council the German delegate, Dr. Curtins, protested against Poland’s antiGerman ferocity and the violent intimidation of Germans in Poland without the slightest restraint being exercised bv the authorities. M. Zaleski, the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, replied that the trouble was due to the anti-polish campaign in Germany. The Government had already punished a number of culprits. The council came to no decision when the session adjourned.
