THIS MORNING’S PLAY
The Hawke’s Bay Tennis Championships were continued on the Hastings Club’s courts Hus morning in much cooler weather. Milbum, in his match with Lowry for the final, proved that he is a difficult player to beat. His chop drives w’ere excellent, and time and again his service won a necessary game. He took the last game of the match with his services. Lowry played well, his service and backhand being a trifle weak, however. CHAMPIONSHIPS. MEN’S SINGLES. Semi-final: Milburn beat Foden, 6-3, 7-5. Final: Milburn beat Lowry, 6—4, 6—4, 2—6, o—6. 6—3. COMBINED DOUBLES. Final: Lowry and Mrs. Hassall beat Udy and Miss Ormond. 7—5, 6-2.
LADIES’ DOUBLES.
Final: Misses Ormond beat Mesdames Hassall and Hetley, 6—3, 6-1.
HANDICAPS.
MEN’S SINGLES. Thiud Round: Udy beat Gregory, 75-59. LADIES’ SINGLES. Final: Miss Palmer beat Miss Nelson, 50—40. LADIES’ DOUBLES: Third Round: Misses Ormond beat Misses Howell and Symonds. 50—38 Semi-final: Mrs. Holmes and Miss Landels beat Misses Rahner, 57—49. HASTINGS PLATE. Ladies. Final: Miss Welch beat Miss Moore, 6—2, 6—3. DOMINION TOURNEY. THIS MORNING’S GAMES. (Per Preu Association.) Chrlltohuroh, Dec. 30. The New Zealand tennis championships are being continued in fine weather but it is cooler. This morning play was confined mostly to junior events; the principal semifinal will be played this afternoon. Results :— Juniof Mixed Doubles. Second round: Miss Gillanders and Reid beat Miss Pitchel and Bell by default. Girls’ Singles. Semi-final: Miss V. Bishdp beat Miss M. Howe, B—4,8 —4, B—s; Miss C. Rees beat Miss I. Poole, 3—6, 6—2, 6-4. Boys’ Singles. Final: N. Davys (Wellington) beat A. A. Mac Gibbon (North Otago), 6—o, 6-2. Intermediate Men. Final: R. A. Court (Otago) heat A. R. Cant (Canterbury), 7—5, I—6, 6—3. Combined Doubles. Third round: Mrs Adams and D. G. France beat Miss Myers and Lampe, 2—6, 9—7, 6—2. ANDREWS IN INDIA. (United Press Auooiatlon-Bj CsbieCopyright.l (Received 30. 9-45 a-m-) Delhi, Dec. 29. Crowded galleries saw BunnyAustin at his best when he defeated E. D. Andrews, 6—2, 7—5, 7—l, in the final of the Calcutta championship. The New Zealander forgot that Austin thrives on speed. His only points were gained when he resorted to lobbing and slicing. Crooke-Edwards and Miss Sanderson boat Hodges and Mrs Stork, 6—l, 6—3, in the mixed doubles final.
