TO THE NEW YEAR

I stand upon the threshold of the year, Fearful of what its days may hold for me. But this I ask the Giver of the days, The grace to bear- its troubles decently. How useless are the plans we strive to make. How small the heights we try so hard to climb. That looking back we scarcely see the prints We made upon the “shining, sands of time” Whatever comes, may I be strong to say, “It must be best,’’ and question not the plan. But plod along from common day to day, And grit my teeth and do the best I can. Failure may stalk our every move, and yet Sometimes from fadure comes the highest gain. Life’s stormiest sunsets blaze with living light, The rainbow’s, lovelist when veiled with rain. I’ll take the day with faith that I shall find, -trength for whatever comes to me, and grace, I’o stand with outflung hands to greet the dawn. Ind smile, and look the New Year in the face. -EDNA JAQUES.
