THE PICTURE HOUSES
COSY DE LUXE. Lighting plays almost as important a part in tho "mood” of a mystery picture as the sjory itself, in the opinion of Charles G. Clarke, Fox Movietone cameraman who is nationally known fox his unique photographic technic and results. "Each scene of a mystery picture,” explains Clarke, "is generally aimed to produce some certain effect—suspense, terror, surprise, and so on. In “Temple Tower,” tho all talking melodramatic novelty which Donald Gallaher directed for Fox Movietone, Clarke lias achieved some highly noteworthy results with his “mood” lighting of the breathless and exciting picture. Kenneth Mac Kenna, Marcelino Day, Henry B. Walthall, Cyril Chadwick, Peter Gawtborne and Ivan Linow are in tho cast of the production which opened at the Cosy Theatre on Saturday. MUNICIPAL. After witnessing a showing of “The Lone Wolf’s Daughter,” a Columuia production, at the Municipal Theatre, it is easy to understand the reason why Bert Lytcll has won such te/mondous popularity in the role of Michael Lanyard and why film lovers are constantly demanding more "Lone Wolf” productions. "Tho Lone Wolf’s Daughter” is prehaps the best of the Louis Joseph Vance novels so far picturised. It relates the adventures and love affair of the "Lone Wolf” after he has adopted a daughter. He is anxious to see her married to a -wealthy youth and this endeavour makes him the prey of a pair of international cooks. He is constantly playing strategy against cunning and thwarting them ut every turn ; n the game. The suspense and mystery is well sustained. ’Thrills tiro plentiful nnd on nearly every occasion they end with a surprise entirely unexpected by the audience. "Hurricane,” a drama of tho sea, is also screened this programme.
