COUNCILLORS OF VARIED OPINIONS. COST OF EXTRA WELL TO BE OBTAINED. “We are iust making ourselves ridiculous. We have plent of water —water to waste!” said Cr. J. C. Bryant at last night's meeting of the Napier Borough Council. which caused heated remarks from Cr. P. F. Higgins, chairman of the waterworks committee, who defended the course of action taken by the committee. The question of the town’s water supply has been under consideration bv the council for some time, and last night the acting-engineer. Mr. W. D. Corbett, pointed out that there was urgent need to increase the simply and storage capacity to meet the demands during the summer. The council decided to obtain the cost of sinkinc an additional eightinch bore adjoining the receiving tanks and also the cost of constructing a collicting tank and installing a pumping plant in McLean Park. The waterworks committee in reporting to the council stated it had instructed the town clerk to enquire whether Mr. James Stewart, wellboring contractor, was prepared to guarantee a good, full supply of water from an eight-inch bore in the Dovecote yard, adjoining the waterworks receiving tanks, and if so. his terms and conditions: also to suggest that Mr. Stewart might see his way to visit Napier and confer with the members of the council and the engineer.
