ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
I Per Press Association.l A motor mechanic, William bimmonds, aged 21, of Onehunga. was seriously injured and his companion tad a narrow escape from injury when a racing ear travelling at 80 miles an hour capsized at Henning’s bpeedway, at Mangcre, about six o’clock last night. The injured man was taken to Auckland Hospital, Where he underwent an operation. His condition last evening was re; orted as very serious. The car somersaulted twice. Later: William Simmonds Led at 10.30 o’clock to-day. When returning from Masterton in the early hours of Sunday morning a «ar driven by J. Pegden, of Palmerston Ndrth, and containing three members of the Manawatu eneket eleven —N. Gallichan, B. Broughton, and LFletcher —capsized near Whakarongo. Mr Pegden received a cut on the neck, while Mr Fletcher suffered injuries to tho thigh and abrasions to the head. Both were admitted to the Palmerston North Hospital, and are reported to be progressing sa’isfaetorUy. The other two passengers escaped Jightly with bruises and shock. They were asleep at the time of the accident _
