WELLINGTON WINS. TARANAKI BEATEN 11-4. Wellington, Sept. 28. In the last game of the season, played here this afternoon, Wellington defeated Taranaki by 11 points to 4. The game was easily the best inter-provincial fixture scon at Athletic Park this year, for the teams were far more evenly matched than even the seven points difference between them suggested, and territorially Taranaki had a slight advantage, Wellington, however, had by far the greater finish, and though one try was rather a lucky one. it deserved to win on the day’s play. Cooke was. indirectly responsible for the first 'try scored by Mac Kay, while late in the second spell Barry scored at the end of a forward rush. Choke also kicked a penalty. For Taranaki. Galbraith potted a good field goal. McLean. Cooke and Julian, all members of the Wellington team, were injured during the match and had to retire. MANAWHENUA BEATEN. Palmerston N., Sept. 28. The Wellington Rugby team defeated Manawhbnua by 19 points to six. It was a forward game, played for the most part in pouring rain. OTAGO JUBILEE. Dunedin, Sept. 28. The jubilee celebrations of the Otago Rugby Union were brought to a close to-day with a church parade of present and past players. The service, held in the Town Hall, was conducted by Archdeacon Fitchett, assisted by the Rev. R. G. McDawall (Presbyterian), and Rev. A. Mead (Congregationalist).
