GENERAL NOTES
An accident occurred in the concluding event at the Geraldine racei. Shortly after the start. Rosy Morn owned by Mr J. M. Samson, endeavoured to get a position between Desert Song and Royal Game, and in the scuffle was brought down breaking a shoulder, which necessitated her destruction. The rider, W. Sizemore, was pinned underneath the filly, and when extricated was found to have suffered a broken collarbone and an injured shoulder. He was sent to hospital. This was Sizemore's second ride only in a race, his urst mount being on Colonel Quex in the Raukapuka Handicap. He is attached to R. C. Keeper's stable, and not in keeping with his name turns the scale at little over four stone. He is probably the smallest apprentice in New Zealand to be in |K>ssession of a i>erniit to ride at the present time. An inquiry int the accident was held after the race, but the stewards decided that Rosy Morn’s fall was purely accidental, no blame being attachable to any of the other riders. The Raukapuka Handicap at Geraldine provided the somewhat unusual spectacle- of two horses from the same stable, but in different ownerships, lighting out u great finish. On this occasion Night Effort, a little fancied candidate, boat Mount Boa, a hot favourite. Both horses are trained at Waimate by T. Hobbs.
The win scored by Black Mint in the Geraldine Cup, says the Christchurch “Star,” representeel a great improvement on Ins form at Ashburton,e where he was near the tail of the' field from start to finish, whereas on Thursday he was in a handy position most of the way. Black Mint, however, has never been noted for consistency, and, in spite of. the reversal bis success was popular, as his Wellington owner, Mr. W. H. Ballinger, is a regular patron of southern meetings in the spring, and his wins are always well received.
Tripping, Fitz Qucx and Tegan were taken to Woodville on Saturday after the Hawke's Bay meeting, and Brown Abbey to Palmerston North. This morning Maui left for Foxton. Portray and Ramanu for Masterton, and Paratoo for Wanganui.
