MATTHEWS LEAVES RANGOON HEADING FOR SINGAPORE. STILL BEATING HINKLER'S TIME. (British Official Wireless.]. (Received 27, 12.30 p.m.) Rugby, Sept. 26. When Captain Matthews left Rangoon this morning to resume his flight to Australia he encountered violent weather over Moulmein and had to return. Ho made a fresh start for Bangkok later and is anxious to reach Singapore to-morrow, the twelfth day of his flight, thus maintaining his lead of a day over Bert Hinkler. The Shell Company's aeroplane “Golden Shell,” piloted by Flying Officer Owen left for Darwin yesterday to meet Captain Matthews on his arrival in Australia. She had to fly over hills in which she appeared to be hopelessly lost. When she found her bearings she realised that tho petrol tank was leaking and was within an inch of the exhaust. Laurenteynac, reveals that the 1921 Budget will provide for a preliminary investigation into the possibilities of anchoring “seadromes” in the Atlantic for the use of regular trans-Atlantic aeroplanes.
