RIFLE SHOOTING
THE HASTINGS MINIATURE CLUB. FINAL TROPHY WON BY I. ROBERTSON. The Hastings Miniature Rifle Club brought their 1930 season to u close last evening, when the third and final round of the last trophy shoot was fired, there being a good attendance of members. The highest score for the evening was registered by D. Kenny, with a seven-shot possible (70), G. Beattie, F. T. White and L, E. Brathwaite running him close with 69. The trophv final resulted in a tie between I. Robertson, E. Watson, D. Kenny and G. E. Tayler, all with 207, the former winning the shoot-off by half a point. The detailed results are as follows: D. White securing a thoroughly deserved win. This popular member of the club has shot very consistently all through the season, finishing up with a grand total of 1030 out of a possible of 1050, or an average per week of 68.66. J. Sim, with a total of 1024, an average of 68.2 took second place, while T. Rosenberg and L. E. Brathwaite tied for third place with 1020, the latter winning in the shoot-off by one point. In all, twenty-three members completed the championship, and with the exception of a few of the tail-enders, are “in the money.” It is to be hoped that after such a successful season’s sport, all the present members will join up next year, and do their best to bring along new members. In connection with the weekly shoots, the member returning the target with the highest score off the rifle is awarded the ladder badge for the week. This badge has been donated each year by Mr. B. M. Kessell, of Hastings, and at the end of the season is presented to the member who has won it the greatest number of times. This year, L. E. Brathwaite and J. Sim have each held it four times, and therefore a shoot-off will be fired to decide who will win it outright.
