During a violent storm in tne Dirranbanui district 50 sheep were killed by lightning and 150 others smothered us a result of the contusion. 'The men in charge received severe shocks. Aiderman McEinone resigned the chairmanship of the Citizens’ Reform party in the City Council. Hu action is tue outcome of the party’s recommendation that the salary of M.. Forbes Mackay be raised by £lOOO. “If necessary,” he said, "1 will resign end re-contest the seat in Fitztoy Ward.” At a special mooting of the Sydney City Council earlier in the month a resolution by the Reform party to bring the council employees under the Public Service Reduction Act was approved, which meant that a cut of 8J per cent, would be made in their wages. At the same meeting Reform aldermen agreed to the recommendation of the electricity committee to increase the salary of Mr. Forties Mac kay, manager of the City FJectri :it.y Department, from £2OOO to £3OOO a year. A sequel to alleged preparations to set fire to the building in Bathurst street was the arrest of a young man who was charged with having maliciously attempted to set fire to the premises of McAlister Brothers. Dail in £lOOO was allowed.
