REP. GAMES

THE NORTH AUCKLAND TOUR A DRAW WITH WAIRARAPA. POOR AND BRILLIANT PLAY ALTERNATES. Masterton, Aug. 3. In a game which can be described as one of thrills and disappointments for partisans of both sides, and in which the standard of piay fluctuated from the poorest possible type to the heights of brilliancy, North Auckland and Wairarapa representatives played a drawn game, nineteen points each, at Masterton on Saturday. Fer three parts of the game the visitors were in the ascendancy and must be accounted unlucky not to have won. Only on rare occasions did Wairarapa produce their real form. North Auckland opened at a pace that had Wairarapa badly rattled, and the home team were eight points down before they were fmly awake to the fast that the game had started. The visitors then had the misfortune to lost McDonald, halfback, through injury. It is more than probable that but for McDonald’s retirement the visitors would have greatly increased their half-time lead. Following loose play a spectacular passing movement among the Blue backs resulted in the first score, Wells accepting his winger’s pass and crossing well ,ut. Kerr missed the kick. UNOPPOSED TRY. Sood play by Ryan allowed Walla to time his pass well and Manson raced over near the corner unopposed. Kerr converted. Soon after Wairarapa had a narrow escape when a forward pass spoilt a certain try. A good sprint by Fuller pur Wairarapa in striking distance, and from a scrum Stringfellow was able to ent through and score brilliantly for Fuller to convert. The score remained unchanged at half-time. North Auckland 8 Wairarapa 5 Wairarapa attacked strongly on resumption and Le Quesne’s weight carried him across. No goal resulted. The next score came rather sensationally. With all the Wairarapa backs out of position, Barrich had a clean run in at the corner. Kerr’s kick missed. The visitors attacked and Roach, the Wairarapa full-back, was tackled in possession. Morrisy only had to pick up the tall and score by the posts. Kerr converted. Fuller soon After coaled from a free kick from 40 yards out. Donald started a movement nlor the Wairarapa goal. Just outside his own twenty-five Fuller received, and with a succession of bewildering swerves, passed all his opponents and finished up behind* the posts. Fuller converted and made the scores 16 all. Wairarapa were now playing more like a provincial team. Clever play gave Mill an opening to cross in the corner and jazz past several opponents to touch down b<‘hind the posts. Fuller’s kick struck the upright and wont outside. Practically on time a final rally by the Blue forwr|ds swept the fin’d. M. Rika roinir over near the post:’. Kerr's kick failed, and the game ended: — Wairarapa 19 North Auckland 19 Mr. H. McKenzie was referee. NORTH OTAGO v. WANGANUI (Per Press Association.) Oamaru, Aug. 2. In a Rugby representative match, Wanganui (8) beat North Otago (0). It was a very poor game, played in cold weather. SEDDON SHIELD GAME. Motueka, August 3. Golden Bay-Motueka lost the Seddon Shield to-day to Bullet by six points to nil. In the first half the game was mostly confined to the forwards. There was no score after Buller’s first points were scored by Goodall (a try). The challengers played like a winning team and till the end held the advantage, Stuart scoring a try from a forward rush. It is the first time for 10 years that Buller has held the trophy.
