HOCKEY
GAMES ON SATURDAY LADIES' AND MEN’S MATCHES. SPECTACULAR PLAY IMPOSSIBLE. The weather was poor last Saturday for the hockey competition, and the grounds for the most part were sodden and heavy and not conducive to fast or spectacular play. The following games were contested: — MATARIKI v. SCINDE. From the bully-off Matariki attacked and Scinde were kept busy defending for the greater part of the game. The score in the first half was one point to nil in favour of Matariki, but in the second half they scored four goals, mainly through tho speed of their forwards. The final score was: Matariki 5, Scinde 0. Messi's Cameron and Thompson were referees. HERETAUNGA KIWIS. Both sides played a great game in the first spell, no score being registered. Heretaunga's combination in tho second half enabled them to finish the game with the score reading: Heroaunga 5, Kiwis 1. Messrs Doree and Wright refereed. KAHURANAKI v. TE UWIRA. The above game wan fast and interesting, Kahuranaki proving the winners by 3—o. LADIES’ SENIOR. TE AWA v. KAHURANAKI. Te Awa carried tho game into the opposing half and found the net in the first spell. On tho change-over, from a forward rush. Te Awa scored, and before the final whistle sounded they repeated the performance, the score then being ; Te Awa 3, Kahuranaki 0. Messrs Ahearn and Hcnaro umpired. MATARIKI v. Y.M.P. Matariki won by three goals to nil after a particularly stubborn resistance by Y.M.P. Messrs Doree and French controlled the game. HASTINGS v. WALMARAMA. This game proved very interesting, and ended in a draw—one all. LADIES’ JUNIOR. T.O.G. (A) had a runaway victory over Technical School (B) by 8 goals to nil. Mr Cameron umpired. Technical School (A) defeated T.O.G. (B) by 7 goals to 1. Mr Thompson was referee. LADY CARROLL SHIELD. The Tamatea Hockey Sub-Associa-tion’s team to play Ruahine for the Lady Carroll Shield on Wednesday next will be selected from the following; Mis,sese O’Regan. Gillies, W. Maraki, L.
