PADDON MAKES AMENDS. BROAD ACRE AGAIN. (Per Press Association.) Palmerston North, August 2. The Manawatu winter meeting was concluded in fine, cold weather. The attendance was lair and the track in good order. The totalisator handled £14,227 for the day and £25.692 for the meeting. Lato results:— Newbury Handicap—l Paddon 1, 2 Slarjoram 2. 8 Black Mint 3. Scr.: Paiko. Won bv three-quarters of a length, a neck between second and third. Time 2.0 4-5. Black Mint and Royal Game were coupled. Kairanga Hurdles.—s Postman 1, 1 Jiu Jazz 2. 4 Copey 3. All started. Won by four lengths, five lengths between second and thlird. Time, 2.52 4-5. POVERTY BAY HUNT. (Per Press Association.! Cisborne, Aug. 2. Till annual meeting of the Poverty ' Bay Hunt Club was held to-day in . line but threatening weather. The : fields, especially in the jumpers’ 1 events, were small, due largely to the fact that few outside horses were present. In former years the Hunt Club meeting was always held one week after the Gisborne Racing Club’s steeplechase meeting, but this year, due to the visit of the British Rugby team, the Gisborne Racing Club's meeting was advanced one week and visiting qwners could not see their way clear to keep their horses here a fortnight for the Hunt Club meeting.
