The driver of the Stratford to Tahora train, H- W. Kelly, aged 49, was killed at Tahora station at 7 o’clock last night. Kelly was assisting with shunting in the yard, and was riding on the first truck of four. The engine was being backed. Apparently he slipped off the brake and fell. The four trucks and the engine passed over him. Kelly was a resident of Whangamona. He was married, with six children. He had only four years to serve before his retirement.

A collision between a motor-cycle and a taxi at the intersection of Tasman street and Rugby street, Wellington, last evening, resulted in the death of the pillion rider in the Wellington Hospital shortly afterwards. The taxi, driven by Byron Maurice Barclay, was proceeding up Rugby street when it struck the motor-cycle os the latter was travelling along Tasman street in a southerly direction The driver of the machine was Seh wyn Morris Bingham, married, who lives at 82 Constable street, and his companion behind was Walter Pederson, of 98 Tasman street. Both men were employed at the coal yard of Samuel Brown Ltd. Immediately after the accident both the injured men were taken to the public hospital by the drivei of the taxi, and Pederson died shortly after admission from severe head injuries. The other man is suffering from shock and abrasions to the face and knees. He was discharged later in the evening after having received medical attention. Neither vehicle was extensively damaged, the cycle having its front wheel buckled.

Mr. John Granville, J.P., a very old settler of the Mangamingi district, near Eltham, died last night from injuries received in an accident on the farm. He was found nt 7 p.m. lying in a drain and a medical man, on examination found him suffering from a fractured skull, broken ribs and a pierced lung Death occurred during the night. It is not known how the injuries were received.
