THE “PENTONE” VALVE.

In a manner characteristic of tlhe American sales specialist, the American Radio journals have been occupied by discussions of the merits of the wonderful “new” valve which has been evolved in the laboratory of a prominent American valve manufacturer. Perusal of tho articles brings the startling disclosure that the valve in question is none other than our old friend tho “Pentone.” As a matter of fact, it is some two years since the first Pentone valve—the Mullard “Pentone”—arrived ire New Zealand and since that time its popularity has been steadily increasing. As the American manufacturer has just discovered the “Pentone” valve will do the work of two ordinary valves, thereby saving initial cost and reducing maintenance charges. In fact, the “Pentone” valve has become standard equipment with many English manufacturers on account of its efficiency and unequalled tonal qualities. Whilst the Mullard “Pentone” was originally specifically designed for battery operated sets, being supplied for two. four and six volt “A’’ batteries, it operates perfectly in the allelectric mains receiver. Furthermore, these well-known English valve manufacturers have just placed on the market ft “Super-Pentone” valve (PM24A) for use with a 4-volt accumulator or in a mains receiver having a 4-volt supply. This new “Super-Pentone’’ will undoubtedly be welcomed in New Zealand where the efficiency, economy and reliability of the all-British valve is an accepted fact.
