SELECTION OF CANDIDATES
FOR PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS. POLITICAL ASSOCIATION’S RESOLUTIONS. Wellington, June 25. Co-operation between the United and Reform Parties in selecting candidates to contest Parliamentary elections was advocated at a, committee meeting of the New Zealand Political Association. Reference was made to tho 1928 general election, and it was stated that owing to the Reform and United Parties each nominating candidates at least half a dozen seats were secured by Labour. After discussion the following resolution was unanimously adopted:— “That in view of the futile contests in a number of constituencies at the last general election and at the recent Hutt by-election when seats were secured by Labour candidates owing to triangular contests, this association urges that the two anti-Labour Parties co-ordinate in the selection of candidates for such seats where it appears essentia], and thus avoid a repetition of the results of previous elections.” A copy of the resolution is to be sent to the Prime Minister and to the Leader of the Reform Partv.
