PROSPECT OF REMOVAL. COUNCIL AND DEPARTMENT AGREE. Regarding the desire of the Hastings Borough Council to have the unsightly water-tanks removed from tho railway yards ill Russell street, tho General Manager of Railways (Mr. H. Stirling) wrote expressing his wish to obtain a solution of the difficulty. He suggested that the council should agree to supply the water on terms, and if at any time it desires to terminate the arrangement, then the council would restore the tanks at its own expense. Tho Works Committee reported having considered the proposal and recommended that it be agreed to, subject to the reservation that the council should not be held responsible for the continuation of the water supply in the event of a burst in the water mains. — Recommendation adopted.
