TEST CHANCES
MACLAREN'S OPINIONS. AUSSIE BOWLERS NOT SO BAD. [United Press Association—By CableCopyright.] (Received 13, 10.50 a.m.) Maclaren, writing in the “Evening Standard” on the test chances, says: ‘ ‘Despite the Australians having been severely tried by wet and cold weather no English side has y< been victorious against the present touring team. My friends keep reminding mo that Australia has no bowlers, to which I reply that the bowlers appear to be dismissing the English sides. I ask how many centuries have been made against the Australians, while a bag full of centuries have been made against the English bowlers on bad wickets. “Personally, 1 rate Grimmett as quite 30 per cent, hotter than ever.” Maclaren proceeds to offer strong praise for Bradman, adding a prediction that his more recent smaller scores are all in favour of Australia to-morrow. “It is my view,” he said, “that Australia will prove ‘the better bowling side, considering that our batsmen are collectively stronger.” AT THE FIELD. [United Press Association—Bv Cable Copyright.] (Received 13, 12.25 p.m.) London, June 12. The Australian cricketers left Downside for Nottingham, where great excitement prevails on the eve of the first test.
