murder. The challenge of crime to the community must be ac-
cepted. This declaration wm made by the “Chicago Tribune” in a leading article dealing with the murder of Albert Lengle, a member of its staff who was shot dead at' a railway station. A military funeral has been planned for Lengle. The authorities have announced that they know the murdered of Albert Lengle. Rarely before in the history of Chicago crime has the city been so aroused as over the murder of the journalist. Rewards of forty thousand dollars have been offered for the apprehension and conviction of the slayer, while the entire city has been organised on a great murder hunt. The police, the State attorneys, private detectives, and the organised power of the Press have joined to track down the killer of a man who during eighteen years’ service came “to learn too much” about Chicago criminals. (Albert Lengle, reporter for the “Chicago Tribune,” who had been investigating crime, was shot and killed by an unidentified assailant, while entraining at a railway station in the heart of the city for a suburb on assignment.
