ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
(Per Preu luoclatlon.J John RiddlJ* aged 70. was struck by a car while walking on the road near Tariki last night and killed instantaneously. His skull was fractured rront and back and he had a compouno fracture of the mg. The car was driven by a man named Belk, a resident of Midhurst.
George Brown, married, aged 49, employed as a at Manawaru. near Te Arolia, died on Wednesday as a result of a drug to induce sleep, and at an inquest the evidence showed that Brown was suffering from a painful complaint and to obtain relief took an overdose of the drug, failing into a deep sleep irom which he did not awake. A verdict of death by misadventure was recorded.
A Maori named Pera Wharekura aged 40 vears, was foun-j hanging n the bush near Herbertville at 11 a-m on Tuesday. When discovered h< was dead. It appears that deceased who was employed bv Mr. A. Bright well, of Herbertville on a fencin; contract, bad been missing from hi’ work since Friday last, and it was thought that he had gone to visit friends. On Monday on organised search was made, with the abovementioned result. It is known that deceased was worrying to some extent over the health of his wife, but he had never shown any tendeaases to suicide. The wife waa formerly Miss Pongi Tutaki, of Porangahau, and there is one child of the mar.riage.
