PREPARING FOR SPORTS DAY

Last evening Admiral Lawson presided over a large and enthusiastic meeting of the Havqloek North Amateur Athletic Club. Arrangements for the forthcoming annual sports gathering on Easter Saturday were complete and everything is now in perfect order. It was decided that a bus should be run from Napier on sportls day for the benefit of com petitors. Highland dancing should prove a popular attraction and a strqng committee was set up to make the necessary arrangements. rhe purchase of sweets and ice-cream was left in the hands of a ladies’ committee consisting of Misses G. Butlex, L. Donkin and G. Liley. Mr. Harold Russell will judge the horse events and Mr. 1). J. Riggir the dog trials. The athletic programme will be controlled by Mr. N A. McKenzie, while Admiral Lawson and Mr. W. Norrie will act as judges.

Donations of 10/6 from Mr. H. Lyall and £2 2/- from Mr. A. H. Annan were received. Mr. F. NewTick has donated the athletic events points prize of £3 3/-, Mr. J. Dunean a cycle events points prize of £2 2/-, ami Mr. Phil Leigh a points prize for ladies’ events valued at 30/-. The grounds aud the track are in excellent conditions and liesidcs the attraction of the sports it will make an excellent picnic place. The club is confident of a record gathering this year and a large band of helpers have already offered their services.
