JEN TAKES THE HURDLES

Th* Napier Park Racing Club’. [Autumn Meeting opened at Greenmeadowa to-day in showery weather. Despite the conditions there was a good attendance of the public. The course was in excellent order, and good racing was witnessed. A welcome innovation was the broadcasting by means of a number of loud speakers, descriptions of the various races being given by Mr G. L. Guiney, of Wellington. The results up to going to press were OMARANUI HURDLES, One mile and three-quarters. 4 Mr R. Gregory’s ch g Jen. by Autumn—Perle Marie, aged (C. Corner), 10.7 1 6 Mr J. D. Ormond's b g King's Jest (J. Kingsley), 10.3 .... 2 6 Mr B. H. Edkin’s o g Diana's Lad (A Jenkins), 10.3 3 (Winner trained by Owner, Clive.) Also started: 1 Red Bank 10.7. 3 Essential 9.6 2 Raukauponga 9.5, 7 Heather Blend 9.0. At the first fence Raukauponga led from Essential. Jen, Red Bank, and Henther Blend, with King's Jest last. The order remained unchanged into the straight, but passing the stand Jen took change from Red Bank, Essential, Raukauponga and Heather Blend. Going into the back stretch the favourite moved up and was at the head of the field from Jen. Raukauponga, Heather Blend and Essential, with King’s Jest still last. Rounding the top Red Bank was out from Jen and Raukauponga, with King’s Jest and Diana’s Lad moving up. Approaching the home turn the favourite was still leading from Jen, .with Essential making a good run. At the last fence Jen shot to the front, and in the run home King’s Jest came up, but Jen was able to beat him * off to win by a length , Diana’s Lad was half a length away, with Red Bank next. Then came Raukauponga, Essential, and Heather Blend. Time, 3.16.

Also started: 2 Royal Opera 9.5, 6 Tourist 8.4. 3 Abbey Queen 7.7, 5 Kahu Ariki 7.0, 7 Pereki 7.0. The favourite went quickly to the front from Cloyne and Abbey Queen. The favourite continued to hold het position, but Cloyne, at the turn, came up, the pair being two lengths clear of Abbey Queen. Kahu Ariki, Pereki and Keen. At the threefurlong post Kahu Ariki was moving up on the outside. Approaching the home bend the favourite was still leading, with Keen in close attendance. Belle Star, on the rails, lead into the straight, just clear of Cloyne, Abbey Queen and Royal Opera, who were well bunched. The run home was most exciting, Keen, an outsider, gaining the verdict by half a length, Cloyne being a length away, with Royal Opera at the head of the rest. Time, 1.14 2-5.

From the barrier rise Jenny Diver and Hawkshaw led out from Rapallo, Henry of Navarre, First Whip and Cylinder. At the three-furlong post Hawkshaw had charge from Jenny Diver, Rapallo, First Whip and Henry of Navarre. Rounding the home bend Hawkshaw and Jenny Diver were still the leading pair. Once the field had got into the straight Cylinder began to make his run. Hawkshaw, Jenny Diver, Rapallo, and Henry of Navarre were fight mg out a great battle. Over the last 50 yards Rapallo went to the front to win by half a length. Hem of Navarre being a length aw third. The favourite was fourth.

Also started: 9 Star Stranger 9.9, 2 Oratnx 8.10. 1 Great Charter 8.4, 4 The Hawk 8.2, 5 Singleton 7.12, 7 My Own 7.5, 10 Shrewd 7.0, 13 Gipsy Fate 7.0, 12 Rory Mor 7.6, 11 High Court 7.0. Oratrix, on the rails, led out from the rise of the tapes from High Court, Shrewd, My Own and Rory Mor. Passing the stands My Own was clear ot Rory Mor. Blimp. Oratrix and The Hawk. At the fivefurlong post My Own was three lengths out from Rory Mor, Blimp. Oratrix, Merry Damon, The Hawk and Great Charter. A furlong further on Blimp had closed on the leader, while Singleton was lying third from Toxeuma, Rory Mor. High Court and The Hawk. Approaching the home bend Blimp and Rory Mor were the leading oair from The Hawk and Great Charter. Enterin’ the straight the field was well bunched, with Blimp and Toxeuma having a slight advantage. Merry Damon then made his run and amidst great excitement succeeded in winning b.v it long neck. Toxeuma was third barely a length eway. with My Own at the head of The Hawk.
