On inquiry this afternoon it was ascertained that the condition of Mr. James Landels, which was considered to he serious yesterday, showed a distinct improvement to-day. Shortly before 9 o’clock last night, the Napier Fire Brigade received a call from a street box at the comer of, Ellison and McGrath streets to an outbreak which had occurred in Wilson’s store and dwelling. The occupants were not at home at the nme. and th? firemen, forcing an entrance, found that the outbreak was confined under the stairway. and with the assistance of the first aid outfit quicklv had the tire extinguished. The small hoy who gave the alarm is to be mended for his action, as it enabled i the Brigade to be on the scene while I the fire was still in its incipient | stages.
