WIN FOR WAIRERE. McLEAY BUTTONS. An interclub competition for the MoLeay Gold Buttons was played yesterday afternoon, twelve . rinks competing. It was a beautiful day and the Port Green’s ground was conducive to fast bowling. The winning team was Runciman’s Rink (Wairere), the trophy being awarded to the . rink with the smallest score. This was not announced until, play was over and came as a surprise to the winning rink. - The trophies were presented by Mrs. Mcueay, and Mr. Somerset Smith, president of the Centre, extended his thanks on its behalf to the donor of the Buttons. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs. McLeay. The results of the afternoon’s play are as follows:— Port (ages 300.1—F. G. Smith, Northcroft, Steele, J P. Smith (s), 25; v. Havelock (age 305)—Hoby, Harrison, Allan, Clarkson (s), 10. Napier (age 294) — Whitehouse, Barry, McMurray, Hunt (s), 20; v. Bluff Hill (age 290)—Tennant, Christie, Deanol Triggs (s), 20. Napier (age 270) —Goodger, Sands, Steed, Murdoch (s). 20; v. Kia Toa fage 269)—Chadwick, Spink. Harris, Aitcheson (s), 25. Hastings (age 286)—Saywell, Hay, Aitkens, Thompson (s), 34; v. Newton) proved thoir superiority over the Port players (H. Mayo and J. McCarthy), and in spite of determined opposition they won by a substantial margin of six, the final score being 23—17. KIA TOA. of St. Leonards Club visited Kia Toa yesterday, and a pleasant afternoon’s play finished in their favour. The results are as follow. Kia Toa names being mentioned first: Simpson. Douthwaite, Coxon, Neilson/ 13 v. Giles, F. Burfield, Wells, Maher. 26.
