Napier Park Cup Meeting

Opening Day To-Morrow

Review of the Acceptances

At Greenmeadows to-morrow and Saturday the above meeting will be held, and the indications are that the club will enjoy the best meeting for some time. The class engaged, especially that of the Cup, is far superior to what is usually seen here. On the first day the Napier Cup will be decided, whilst on Saturday the President’s Hack Cup comes up for decision. Hastings stables are well represented, about forty horses all told’ being accepted. Outside stables, too, claim more acceptors than usual. The first race commences at 12.30 p.m. The course is in

excellent order, and everything thus points to a big financial success..

Racing commences with the OMARUNUT HUBBLES, lj mile. 1 mile.

Bed Bank ia a good average hurdler, but most of his wins have been over a quarter of a mile less. Jen, with 10.4, will give the others something to think of over the concluding stages. King’s Jest is making his first appearance in a hurdle race. Diana’s Lad, who accompanies Oratrix on the trip, has been galloping exceptionally well on the track at Trentham. Essential is a very fair novice. Rakauponga’s form in the past has been in and out. Heather Blond is a possibility. The favourites on the machine may be Jon, "ed Bank and Diana’s Lad. Then follows the ESK HACK HANDICAP, 6 furlongs.

Royal Opera, on performances, may find six furlongs a little too short, but as ho is in rare trim he cannot be overlooked. Belle Star is a speedy hack. Tourist does not invite confidence. Brown Sugar looks exceptionally bright and muscular, but, unfortunately, she rather badly bruised her foot the other day, so may not bo at her best. Abbey Queen goes fast. Keen, ridden by H. Gray on both days at Dannevirke, could not do better than fourth. Knliu Ariki will nut be rushed, as her form this season has boon discouraging. Cloyno rattled off a smart five furlongs yesterday morning. Pereki and The Mug arc both likely candidates. Bello Star, Cloyne and Abbey Queen may appeal most to investors. Now for the

NAPIER (JUP, 1} mile

Star Stranger has a good weight to carry. He is a very fit horse, and although ten furlongs sees him hardly at his best, nevertheless he is most difficult to pass over on account of his class. Oratrix did not race up to expectations either at Pahiatua or Woodville, but with that racing may now do much better. Great Charter is at the top of his form, and is a very good sort when right. His performances at the last Trentham meeting were encouraging. Merry Damon just scrambled home in the Woodville Cup, which was the first time ho had won over this distance. The Hawk badly needed a gallop prior to the. Dannevirke Cup, and that form can he forgotten. The old fellow goes to the post to-morrow a very fit. horse. Singleton won the Marton Cup with eight stone up, and the Gisborne Cup with near ten stone up. Blimp is a fair performer. My Own won nil the way over this distance last week at her first attempt, and ns she is galloping very well! she must be given a chance. The Swell cannot be recommended on account of his many failures over this distance. Shrewd has brightened up since Wanganui. Rory More may be the outsider of the field. Mountain Heath had every chance on the second dny at Dannevirke in anything hut a strong field, and taking a line through that will need to improve a lump to ho in the first three in this event. Gipsv Fate has nothing to recommend her. When the final tote, tallies are adjusted the following may be entrusted with most support: Great Charter, Toxeuma, Singleton, and The Hawk. Next to be decided is the

Cylinder and Love Song, from the Ngatarawa stable, are both good sorts. Kahikatoa has not raced since the New Year, and in the interim has done but very little fast work. Henry of Na van c is a greatly improved youngster bin has paid dear for hi,-.

win in moderate company at Dannevirko last week. Jenny Diver won at Hastings and at Trentham. Hawkshaw, bred in Australian from New Zealand parents, gallops fast, but as yet may require a little more time before running out a solid five furlongs. Running Over won at Gis- !> -me in very poor company. Outward Bound is a most promising young thoroughbred, but, this is his first outing in public. Jenny Diver, Cylinder-Love Song braoket, and Henry of Navarre may be the favourites on tho machine. Next on the programme is the MAIDEN SCURRY, w of 100 sovs.; 5 furlongs. Don Quixote Right Bower Hillculius Merry Melody Minter Falcon Hand Over Royal Court Wedding Bells Crown Jest Crown Emblem Blackpool Manifesto Glasgow Corneroff Don Quixote can gallop fast Minter is mediocre. Wedding Bells must be given a chance. Manifesto goes a good five furlongs, and with anything like a fair jump out will be hard to dispose of. Corneoff has in all run four seconds this season, and on his run last week must be considered. Merry Melody, if produced, will be eagerly sought after. Royal Court, on appearance, looks the part, but his public outings to date are not encouraging. Crown Jest, Blackpool and Glasslough (full brother to Talisker) nil go fairly well on the track. Those that may appeal most are manifesto, Merry Melody, and Comeoff. Next to interest is the AUTUMN HANDICAP, 7 furlongs. Merry Mint 9 13 Head Serang 9 1 The Swell 9 12 Hunting Dity 3 8 Moa Bird 9 8 Te Awha 8 5 Admiral Drake 9 5

Merry Mint is in rare trim. The Swell is a fair perfonnei|. Mon Bird has done all her racing over six furlongs, but the extra furlong should not trouble the Lord Quex mare. Admiral Drake nan be relied upon tn run a solid seven furlongs. Head Serang, on recent form, must be a big consideration. Hunting Day must be considered well handicapped, as in December he won at Feilding. Hawera, and Auckland, beating good fields. Te Awha has only been up a short while after a spell. Head Serang, Hunting Day and Moa Bird may be the favourites.

Next to be decided is tho FLYING HANDICAP, 6 furlongs.

Kaihoro won on the second day at Dannevirke. She won this race last year. Ridgemount has been galloping well. Bonogne re in the same stable. Aston goes very fast. Royal Parade won nt his last outing. Huikai ran so well at Dannevirke in his first race for some time that he cannot •be ignored. Royal Duke, in his recent efforts, cannot be recommended. Cuticle is fair. The elect of Ridge-mount-Bonogne, Aston and Kaihoro may find fhost favour with investors. The first day concludes with the REDCLYFFE HACK HANDICAP,

Fine Acre won ut Wellington in very fair company and on that form should be well backed to-morrow. Goldlike should he seen to advantage. Rich Harvest is only fair. High Society’s racing is a little in and out. Crown Link is a consideration. Kimbo and Whnknue are not liked. Knokaoroa is a speedy sort. Merry Melody, is reserved for this event, will bo sought after. Tho favourites on the machine may he Coldlike, Fine Acre and Rich Harvest.
